Playa Masachapa
About
Playa Masachapa
Masachapa Beach is perhaps the most popular beach for Nicaraguan bathers during Holy Week and on weekends during the hot Nicaraguan summer.
The beach is vast and flat; strolling along it is a true pleasure, and both sunrise and sunset are spectacular.
Small rock formations dot the beach, breaking up the monotony of the landscape.
During the day, you can see groups of fishermen arriving with their boats laden with fish and seafood, from whom you can buy fresh fish at reasonable prices.
The beach is quite peaceful and well-equipped for tourism, with hotels, hostels, restaurants, and eateries. You can also enjoy water sports and rent horses for rides along the beach.
To give you an idea of the beach's beauty, know that it inspired the famous Nicaraguan composer Rafael Gastón Pérez to write the celebrated 1970s song,
"Cuando calienta el sol" (When the Sun Heats Up), whose original title was "Cuando Calienta el sol en Masachapa" (When the Sun Heats Up in Masachapa).
